[Solved] Onn Wireless Mouse Not Working (Here’s the Fixes!)

A Wireless mouse is a convenient tool to have when working on your PC but it has its fair share of issues. If you have an Onn wireless mouse that’s not working, then you’re in luck. In this article, we listed down things you can do to fix your Onn wireless mouse.

How To Fix Onn Wireless Mouse Not Working

Depending on the severity of the problem, fixing your Onn wireless mouse can be as simple as replacing a battery or as difficult as you’re better off buying a brand new one. If your Onn wireless mouse is not working properly, then here are a few things you can do to fix it;

Replace The Battery

The first and foremost common culprit behind a malfunctioning wireless mouse is the batteries. Try to use fresh new batteries.

Some wireless mouse already exhibits performance issues if the battery is below 50% of its capacity. These issues can range from various performance aspects such as…

  • Mouse cursor jumping
  • Consecutive unwanted clicks
  • Mouse connectivity issue
  • Mouse cursor lagging

And many more. Make sure to use the same type of battery that came with your Onn wireless mouse. If it did not come with a free battery, read the user manual and ensure to use the appropriate type of battery. Certain wireless mice on the market have indications to avoid using certain types of batteries when operating.

Plug The Receiver To Another USB Port

The USB port where you plugged the receiver can also be a culprit behind the ongoing issues with your Onn wireless mouse.

In some cases, the USB port can either be faulty or simply broke down from use over time and this can be quite random. You will not notice any signs until it just doesn’t work anymore.

In this case, plugging the receiver into a different USB port might just fix the problem for you. Make sure to plug it onto a known working USB port.

If after moving the receiver to a known working USB port and your Onn wireless mouse still doesn’t work, attempt to test every USB port available. Sometimes, some USB ports just don’t work with any PC peripherals such as those that are intended for gaming-grade peripherals.

We also recommend plugging the receiver into a different computer system to ensure that the problem is not the mouse itself. Otherwise, if it still doesn’t work after plugging it into a different PC, then the problem is within the mouse.

To further ensure that the problem is the mouse, we also recommend using a different wireless mouse for testing. Just make sure that the wireless mouse you are about to use for testing is a known good working one.

The Classic “Have you turned it OFF and ON again?”

This may sound silly but performing the classic suggestion of switching the device OFF and then turning it ON again might just do the trick for you.

In situations like this, there is just some kind of weird connectivity issues going on with the Onn mouse and the generic driver that your PC installed for your mouse. So a simple turning it OFF and ON again might just be enough.

Press The Connect Button

The Onn wireless mouse comes with a dedicated receiver for wireless connectivity. It runs on a 2.4Ghz frequency platform which is similar to the frequencies used by our Wi-Fi at home. However, the Onn wireless mouse is not a plug-and-play type of device.

If you look closely under the mouse, you will find a button with the label “Connect”. This button is used to establish a connection between the receiver and the mouse just in case something wrong goes on during usage.

So, if your Onn wireless is not working, then you might want to re-establish a reconnection between the mouse and the receiver again. To do this;

  1. unplug the receiver from your PC.
  2. Restart your computer.
  3. After the restart, make sure your mouse is switched OFF and plug the receiver back into your PC.
  4. Wait for 10 seconds and then switch your mouse ON.
  5. Once done, wait for 5 seconds.
  6. Then press the connect button and wait for another 10 seconds. The LED under the optical sensor should start blinking indicating a connection attempt between the mouse and its receiver.

Once the blinking is over, check to see if that fixes the problem for you.

Wireless Interferences

The Onn wireless mouse runs on a 2.4Ghz frequency for connectivity. The same frequency is used by most of our wireless devices at homes such as Wi-Fi routers, Bluetooth devices, IP CCTVs, smartphones, and other wireless devices.

This may sound like nothing at all but if you’re living in the city or in an area where your neighboring households have their own wireless connections, this can be a problem. Imagine living in a suburban area where every household has a number of wireless devices at home, then expect wireless interferences.

What is wireless interference anyway? By definition, wireless interference is any signal outside of the configured wireless network. It’s a signal that impairs the normal operation of your wireless network at home.

Typically, wireless interferences can cause slower speeds, higher latency, frequent disconnects and reconnects, and sometimes a complete inability to connect to a Wi-Fi signal. In this case, the receiver.

The 2.4Ghz frequency is considered a saturated frequency since the majority of the wireless devices on the market uses it.

If you’re having this problem, then expect that it will affect the performance of your wireless devices including your Onn wireless mouse.

If this is the problem for you, then there’s not much else we can do. The best solution for this kind of problem is to place the receiver as close as possible to your Onn wireless mouse. Or better yet, switch to a wired mouse.

Otherwise, you can also purchase a 5Ghz wireless mouse which will solve your problem with frequency saturation. It will also eliminate any form of interference that can affect performance.

Faulty Hardware

If all of the recommended quick fixes we mentioned above did not work for you, then it’s best to consider that your Onn wireless mouse may have either faulty hardware, a broken component, or a pending hardware failure. Nonetheless, all these 3 still point to the same problem and that’s the internal hardware components.

There are 2 things you can do here. Either get to consider the status of the mouse or fix it by yourself.

For the first one, proceed to the next paragraph.

For the second one, dismantle your Onn wireless mouse and inspect the hardware components for any obvious problems such as a blown capacitor, rusty pins, faulty switches, or any wiring that could have been cut.

Once you determined the problem, take note of the components’ information and check if you can purchase the same component from your favorite hardware store. In some instances, you can easily purchase online. Once you have the correct components, ready your tools and replace the faulty component.

So, depending on how you obtained your Onn wireless mouse, there are still a few things you can do. If your mouse is fairly brand new and is still within its warranty period, then it’s best to bring it back to the store where you bought it and claim a warranty service for it. That way, authorized staff will either have your mouse fixed for you or replace you with a brand new one.

If your mouse is out of warranty and you have a strong attachment emotionally and sentimentally to your Onn wireless mouse, then we recommend getting it fixed by a professional technician. If the problem is with the hardware component, then it can be replaced since most of the components are readily available on the market.

If your mouse is out of warranty, is exhibiting performance issues despite performing the fixes we mentioned above, and you have a few bucks to spare, then we highly recommend getting yourself a brand new wireless mouse.

Speaking of a brand new mouse, the Onn wireless mouse is sold at Walmart for US$10 to US$12 depending on the store. At that price range, you can find the most suitable replacement for your needs. You have a wide variety of selections to choose from and some are sold at a cheaper price range.

If you want a recommendation from us, then we highly recommend checking out the Logitech brand of wireless mouse. You may have to cash in a few more but the brand is reliable and is one of the leading brands for PC peripherals.
